A lot has changed since VR Fitness Insider published our list of the top 15 VR fitness games for a total body workout early last year. While all of those titles are still a great way to get in shape while playing games in virtual reality, we’ve seen nearly two years worth of great VR fitness games since then and the release of new hardware like the cord-free Oculus Quest.
Top 25 Best VR Fitness Games 2019
Audica
Developed by rhythm game specialists Harmonix, Audica blends music and first-person shooting together. Featuring a soundtrack filled with 33 fun songs, players alternate between using blue and orange guns to shoot targets of the same color. Of course, you’ll have to do so while also to the beat of the music. The real workout comes from playing on the expert difficulty, as it provides quite the intense experience. It’s a fantastic arm workout and a great time in VR, and custom beat map modding means that there’s no shortage of replay value.
Audica is available on Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, and PlayStation VR. It is coming soon to Oculus Quest, and has a fitness rating comparable to walking by the VR Institute of Health and Exercise.
Audio Trip
There are a lot of great dancing games in VR, and Audio Trip is one of the best of them. This fast-paced rhythm game has players moving their entire bodies in order to dodge barriers, hit drums, catch gems and ride ribbons. Making this workout even better is the great song selection, which includes high-profile artists such as dubstep icons Skrillex & Deadmau5, Lady Gaga, and Zedd.

Beat Saber
While Beat Saber probably doesn’t need an introduction as it has become one of VR’s most popular titles, we’ll still give it one for our best VR fitness games 2019 list. Beat Games’ fantastic rhythm title has the player using two katana beams to slice beats in specific directions and dodge oncoming walls. It’s a complete blast even though the song list isn’t filled with hits. Although there is an Imagine Dragons DLC pack if you’re into the rock group (we won’t judge).

Blade and Sorcery
While not a title one might traditionally think of when thinking about the best VR fitness games 2019, Blade and Sorcery is a workout favorite for many gamers. As one can expect from its arena fighting motif, this is quite the intense title as players swing and throw all sorts of weapons at their opponents. It is primarily an arm workout it doesn’t require any squatting, but those with room can jump and attack from different angles. Ultimately, the WarpFrog-developed title is a great blend of traditional gaming and fitness.

BoxVR
You can’t get much better arms and legs-based cardio workout than the one provided by BoxVR. Regularly updated with new workouts by professional fitness instructors, this rhythm-based boxing game will help you get into shape by doing a lot of punching. It’s a great way to let loose of some steam, and it’s perfect for quick 15-minute workouts.

Creed: Rise to Glory
Based upon the “Rocky” successor, Creed: Rise to Glory brings all of the thrill and drama of the film series to virtual reality. Playing as Adonis Creed, you’ll need to put in the work at the gym in order to defeat fictional boxing greats like Viktor Drago. It’s one of the most intense experiences in VR, and will deliver a great core and arm workout. This is absolutely a must-own fitness title.

Echo VR
Bringing together Echo Arena and Echo Combat, Echo VR is a must-download for Oculus owners. Echo Combat is all about moving through a zero-gravity field while shooting opponents and cooperating with your three teammates to achieve objectives. Meanwhile, Echo Arena is a more esports-centric competitive mode as players use melee abilities glide around and score goals. Both modes are a lot of fun to play, and are two of the most fun multiplayer experiences in VR. Oh, and the best part? It’s free, so Oculus owners have no reason not to check it out.

Holopoint
Holopoint has been a VR mainstay, but its sequel launched with a number of issues including long load times and some annoying bugs. Thankfully, patches have made it realize more of its true potential. The archery title has players taking out waves of ninjas and samurai. Players will have to regularly squat in order to dodge beams, and it’s a solid shoulder workout as well.

Hot Squat 1 & 2
As one can safely assume from the title, Hot Squat is a great leg workout. This is one to bust out on leg day, as it’s all about challenging yourself to do as many squats as possible. The fun gameplay helps add some much-needed motivation to keep feeling the burn. If you want to burn calories then you can’t do any better than this.

Knockout League
While not nearly as intense as Creed, Knockout League still provides a solid workout. The arcade-style boxing game is totally ridiculous as you face off against a boxing octopus and other foes. There’s also some great mini-games included, so this winds up being an excellent way to burn some calories while also having a fun time. It’s essentially Punch-Out! in virtual reality, and that’s a good thing. Plus, the in-game training alley is perfect for getting a good workout in.

Ninja Legends
One of the most intense VR fitness games is Ninja Legends. This game will test your reaction speed as it requires the player to use melee combat to take out waves of fast-moving ninjas. There are a number of fun weapons to use including your katana, claws, staff, and you’ll even get to use a chain dart and bow as special abilities. There’s a total of four difficulty modes, so this can be as challenging as you desire it to be.

OhShape
The concept of OhShape isn’t anything new, but it’s the most enjoyable shape-matching titles in VR. The rhythm game has players matching full body shapes while also punching and dodging walls. It’s very similar to the Hole in the Wall game that released for Xbox 360 Kinect earlier this decade, but much more fun. Even if you don’t have a ton of room

Pistol Whip
Another fun first-person shooter, Pistol Whip has players doing their best John Wick impersonation. Players make their way through awesome action scenes that are like over-the-top action movies and have to figure out a way to deal with all of the foes. Interestingly, despite having music for each level, there’s no set beat that players have to battle on. It’s a fantastic leg workout, mostly because once you start playing you won’t want to stop. It’s one of the most addictive experience in VR, and you will definitely get the most bang for your buck here.

PowerBeats VR
Another rhythm-based VR title, PowerBeats VR has players using their fists to hit down incoming objects and squatting to avoid walls. It’s a very intense workout that targets all aspects of your body. With a level editor and calorie tracking for players, this is a fitness title that knows exactly what its audience wants.

Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR
As you can guess by the name, Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR is all about playing some table tennis. As such, it’s a really intense test of your reaction speed and arms. It’s one of the most enjoyable VR titles, and there are 16 different robot opponents to face off against. The physics are really what make this one of the best VR fitness games 2019, as you’ll develop real table tennis skills that translate outside of VR.

Racket Nx
One of the coolest VR experiences, Racket Nx is a fun mix of Breakout and racquetball. Players have to destroy a series of targets with the ball, but the player has a tractor beam that allows them to pull it back to them. It’s a total blast whether you are playing solo or competing against another human in multiplayer.

While its full title is quite a mouthful, Song Beater: Quite My Tempo! is a highly enjoyable VR rhythm game. It has players using their fists and a variety of weapons to get through different songs. It also has custom song and video support, so the workout doesn’t have to be limited to just the included songs.

Soundboxing
While there are a lot of boxing games in VR, but Soundboxing has an unparalleled selection of music as it uses YouTube videos. It’s a highly satisfying punching game, and the leaderboards will make sure that players have a good reason for continuing to play. This is a great alternative to a lot of the other boxing VR titles, especially if you want to jam to your own music rather than included tracks.

Sparc
One of the best multiplayer VR titles, Sparc is essentially Discs of Tron meets Dodgeball as players compete with one another by trying to hit one another with a ball and use their shield to deflect it. It’s a physically demanding game that will test player’s will to compete as matches go on. While it doesn’t have a huge multiplayer base, it has a dedicated fan base that are very welcoming to new players. It’s certainly worth checking out if you prefer a competitive challenge.

Sports Scramble
One of the best Oculus exclusives, Sports Scramble is a wacky sports mash-up that has players competing in familiar sports with a twist. For example, you’ll play tennis using a golf club, and attempt to hit home runs with a hockey stick. It’s completely ridiculous, and a great solo or multiplayer title. It’s not the most intense workout out there, but it’s one of the most enjoyable and replayable ones.
Sports Scramble is available now on Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest.
Sprint Vector
Despite being about sprinting, Sprint Vector isn’t actually a great leg workout. However, you’ll be using your arms to move quickly it requires quite a bit of core and balance coordination. It’s also a highly replayable game thanks to its multiplayer focus. This is one you’ll find yourself coming back to repeatedly.

Superhot VR
While it’s relatively low intensity compared to a lot of the other games on this list, virtual reality gaming doesn’t get much better than Superhot VR. This first-person shooter is a blast as players dodge bullets and take out enemies with a twist: they only move when you move. It’s just as brilliant as the regular console version, but even more immersive thanks to your headset of choice. It’s not just one of the best fitness VR games 2019, but one of the best titles period.

If you’re looking for a game that will make you sweat then Synth Riders is for you. It’s a highly intense workout that has players blocking and punching targets while also moving your legs a surprising amount. More than just a great overall exercise session, this VR title is a fun rhythm game that is filled with synth heavy music.

The Thrill of the Fight
Despite being one of the earliest VR boxing titles, The Thrill of the Fight is still a recommended title due to the realism of its simulation. Players will learn how to properly jab, hit a speed bag, and it will take real technique in order to succeed in the virtual boxing ring. There are plenty of over-the-top alternatives, but nothing else delivers as realistic thrill as this VR classic by Ian Fitz.

While not officially out just yet, Viro Move‘s fantastic demo was impressive enough to land it a spot on our list. Offering both chill exercises and intense challenges, this fitness title has players slashing, shooting, punching and dodging against a variety of incoming objects. The variety really sets it apart from other workout titles and this will absolutely test both your legs and arms.

Virtual Fighting Championship
While it won’t turn you into a mixed martial artist, Virtual Fighting Championship is still one of the best virtual reality fighting games available. Players can hone their skills in single-player and eventually take on others online. Considering you’re dodging out of the way of attacks and punching to deliver your own, you’ll work up quite the sweat while competing in the VFC.
