This Week’s VR Game Roundup — Space is the Place for Star Wars

Battle Sorcerers

Did you ever have Harry Potter wizarding battles with your friends as a kid? Want it to seem a bit more real now that you’re an adult? In Battle Sorcerers, you engage in one-on-one battles against another sorcerer, throwing magical spells at your enemies. You can merge magic types together, and if you get sick of the two-player mode, you can fight in a battle royale mode against up to four others.

Fitness Potential

In order to cast a spell in Battle Sorcerers, you must hurl it at your enemy like a ball. This is used for attacking, but if an enemy attacks, you will have the chance to slam down a defensive spell to stop them. If you play several games in a row against a skilled opponent, this can get your arms moving quite a bit.

Developer/Publisher: G1 Playground

Release Date: November 19, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Valve Index

Price: $11.24 to $14.99

Unnamed VR

Why would a studio call its game Unnamed VR? We’re not sure, but perhaps it’s because there are so many different options available in its open world. Packed with mini-game rooms, Unnamed VR lets you do as you please. You can climb, balance on a board above a trampoline, shoot, or throw blocks around the room. When you’re bored with one activity, just move onto the next!

Fitness Potential

Because of its open-ended structure, the fitness potential in Unnamed VR can be what you make of it. One of the games available gives you a full drum kit. Anyone who has drummed for more than a few minutes knows just how grueling it can be. You can also play table tennis, which can offer a nice workout when played vigorously, as well.

Developer/Publisher: Paracosma

Release Date: November 21, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Valve Index

Price: $14.99 to $19.99

Blastworld

A unique competitive multiplayer title from HipFire Games, Blastworld is a free-to-play game with an emphasis on shooting and climbing obstacles. You can explore every part of the game’s maps in order to find your perfect firing position. It includes multiple movement options, including one that is controlled by your controller motion instead of a stick or teleporting. In the “comfort” mode, you will move with large jumps, instead.

Fitness Potential

If playing in the more intense configuration, you will be moving almost constantly in Blastworld. Whether it’s for running to a new location, climbing something, or attacking, your arms will be involved. You can climb basically any surface in the game, too, which is done much like you’d climb a ladder in real life. You can experiment to see what’s possible by moving your arms in several different ways.

Developer/Publisher: HipFire Games

The Under Presents

A mysterious and surreal game unlike anything else on VR, The Under Presents features stage shows, unique characters, and time-traveling puzzles. You must work with past versions of yourself to explore memories of the doomed The Aickman research vessel. Along the way, you’ll see bizarre shows and complete goofy activities that cover up dark secrets.

Fitness Potential

The Under Presents features several different physical activities among its many components. They include quickly chopping up vegetables in a kitchen, grabbing and throwing abstract globs, and swirling a magical object around in a circle. There is also a fish dancing show that you will definitely want to boogie along to.

Vader Immortal: Episode III

Look into your headset! You know it to be fun! In Vader Immortal: Episode III, you will assault Darth Vader’s fortress and battle against Stormtroopers using an ancient lightsaber. Set on Mustafar, the action-packed finale is filled with classic Star Wars action. Block blaster fire with your blade, use a blaster of your own, and launch enemies with the Force. Of course, it will all culminate in a battle against Darth Vader himself.

Fitness Potential

Vader Immortal is an active VR experience that requires quick reflexes. Not only will you be swinging your lightsaber to block and attack, but you’ll also throw your hands forward to use Force abilities. There will be very few opportunities to breathe. Of course, that rush and energy level is part of what makes Star Wars so exciting.

Developer/Publisher: ILMxLAB

Release Date: Disney

Compatible With: Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift

Price: $9.99
