This Week’s VR Game Roundup — Slice Baddies and Save Bodies

Wookie’s Blade

If you’re tired of just practicing your sword skills in Beat Saber, then take on some martial art masters in Wookie’s Blade. Using a unique art style inspired from Chinese ink paintings, the game looks far different from other VR sword titles. Enemies rush the screen, and you’ll need precise strikes to eliminate them.

Fitness Potential

Wookie’s Blade is all about swinging your sword with the proper accuracy and timing to eliminate enemies. They will come at you in pairs or large groups, so you will need to be quick with your slashes. You can also knock projectiles out of the air by hitting them with your sword, if you’re up to the challenge.

Developer/Publisher:  Hangzhou Wookart Technology

Release Date: July 30, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Valve Index

Price: $2.99

Anticorps VR

Remember that movie Osmosis Jones?  If you wanted to play that game in VR, then Anticorps is exactly what you need. Set inside infected patients’ bodies, you must destroy pathogens as you protect an antibody developing inside. The game mixes strategy with action, and there are 23 different enemies to battle as well as a giant boss. Nine game modes are currently offered at launch.

Fitness Potential

Anticorps blends slower strategy gameplay with direct combat. You have access to a hammer weapon for beating up enemies that draw near. The hammer is also used for deflecting projectiles that are thrown your way by the virus. For tougher encounters, a wand device can spray out a healing mist. We hope our immune systems aren’t actually this violent in real life.

Developer/Publisher: Development Unreal Creative

Release Date: July 30, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index

Price: $10.39 to $12.99

RADtv

VR games are often some of the goofiest around, and that is certainly true with RADtv. Created by Ruffian Games, the multiplayer title is a collection of bizarre mini-games you must complete in order to be the RADtv champion. Drive cars, throw blades, punch faces, and everything in between in rapid rounds. You can shoot bottles in a saloon, or just shoot the other patrons, instead!

Fitness Potential

RADtv is an intense and fast-paced game, and Ruffian even mentions getting “sweaty” in the original announcement trailer. Everything you do in the game is at a sprinting pace. This includes fighting someone else, drumming on a kit, firing pistols, hitting soccer balls, and even shoving burgers into your face.

Developer/Publisher: Ruffian Games

Release Date: August 2, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive

Price: $9.99

Airranger

Think you have the archery skills to pay the bills? Several bow-and-arrow games are available in VR, but Airranger throws you into a multiplayer battle to prove you are the best of the best. You fire your arrows to quickly launch yourself to new areas, and deliver deadly shots to your enemies. You can even launch multiple arrows at the same time for increased effectiveness.

Fitness Potential

You can essentially fire out your bow fast as you can draw it back. Using the tracked motion controllers, you hold an arrow in one hand and your bow in the other. To pick items off the ground, you must also reach out with one hand. And did we mention that you can just slice through enemies with a sword if you get within range? Because you can.

Developer/Publisher: Chesstar Studios

Release Date: August 1, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Valve Index

Price: $9.34 to $10.99

Don’t want your new Valve Index headset to be ruined by sweat after your workout? Then you will need to get a VR Cover. Now available for Valve Index, the VR Cover is made of breathable cotton and can be machine-washed. Each set comes with two of them, allowing one to be washed and replaced by the other. The cloth is comfortable against your skin and won’t irritate it.

Fitness Potential

The Valve Index is made specifically for those who want to sweat in their VR headset. Because two are included in the pack, you can work out and then give the headset to a friend without sharing germs.
