This Week’s VR Game Roundup — Shut Your Claptrap!

Audio Trip

If you’ve wanted to dance along in a VR game that also features choreographed music from big artists, Audio Trip is for you. The game was designed to get you moving and jamming while you catch gems and hit drums. It’s colorful and gorgeous, on top of having some killer tunes to jam to during your sessions.

Fitness Potential

Audio Trip is designed to get your entire body moving through dance. Not only will you be moving to the beat, but you’ll have to dodge barriers that come near you. You can also slam down on drums during songs, and everything is designed to keep your body in motion. You will definitely need to wipe some sweat away with this one.

Developer/Publisher: Kinemotik Studios/Andromeda Entertainment

Release Date: October 24, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, Windows Mixed Reality

Price: $19.99

Holoception

A bizarre game that blends together elements of first-person and third-person action, Holoception is its own beast. In the game you will defeat legions of enemies using guns, swords, bats, and more. You aren’t unstoppable, but you will feel like a total action hero. If you just want to hang out and dance or dress like a cat, you can do that, too.

Fitness Potential

All of Holoception is physics-based, making it perfect for movement in VR. Your own hand movements will be reflected in the game, so you can slice your sword as fast as you can move your arms. You will unlock new weapons to help you in your mission, and can experiment to become an efficient killer. Just be careful not to accidentally break a piece of furniture in the process.

Developer/Publisher: Holonautic

Release Date: October 24, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index

Price: $19.99

Borderlands 2 VR (Steam)

Sure, you could jump into Borderlands 3 on your PC and play the next chapter in the Vault Hunters’ story. But why do that when Borderlands 2 VR is finally available on PC via Steam? This is the entire Borderlands 2 experience reworked for virtual reality. It’s packed with the same looting and shooting goodness you’d expect, and a dastardly villain in Handsome Jack.

Fitness Potential

Borderlands 2 can be a hectic game, and that’s only amplified in VR. You’ll be using tracked motion controllers to aim at several enemies, and you’ll have to get quick with your target acquisition. If you deal with motion sickness, there is also a teleportation option so you won’t feel the roughness of running.

Developer/Publisher: Gearbox Software/2K Games

Release Date: October 22, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive

Price: $49.99

Pumpkin Smasher VR

It’s almost Halloween, and you can get into the spooky spirit of the holiday with Pumpkin Smasher VR. The game is exactly what it sounds like: Smash as many pumpkins as possible! Compatible with one or two controllers, you have to avoid hazards and smash pumpkins as well as monsters. There is even a pumpkin boss to fight, and you can replay it to get a higher score.

Fitness Potential

Swinging is the name of the game – well, not literally – but you’ll be doing a lot of swinging in Pumpkin Smasher VR. Whether you’re shooting for a higher score or defending yourself, you’ll need to be moving your arms in order to succeed here. If you think you can do it, grab a club and get to swinging.

Developer/Publisher: VRX

Release Date: October 25, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index

Price: $1.19 to $1.99

Thrill of the Fight (Oculus Quest)

We’ve been covering plenty of arcade-style boxing games recently, but with if you want something more authentic? That’s where Thrill of the Fight on Oculus Quest comes in. Available for just $9.99, the game tasks you with fighting several challenges and learning their techniques. You’ll need to be at your best, but practice goes a long way.

Fitness Potential

As with most boxing games, you’ll be swinging punches and trying to dodge those that get thrown at your head. You’ll need a pretty large area to enjoy this game, but that’s because you’ll be moving around so much. After a few fights, you’ll start to feel the burn in your elbows and shoulders.

Developer/Publisher: Ian Fitz

Release Date: October 24, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Quest

Price: $9.99
