This Week’s VR Game Roundup — Escape Death, Play Cop, and Battle Dinosaurs

Human Sacrifice

Is there anything more terrifying than knowing you’re about to die a grisly death? In Human Sacrifice, you awaken at a strange ceremony, trapped in a prison cell and about to be put to death. You have to use the tools at your disposal and your wits to escape before it’s too late. One playthrough isn’t enough, as the game features 20 different endings based on your choices.

Fitness Potential

Using the tracked motion controllers, you must interact with objects in your environment and forge a path to escape. Holding a candle in one hand will give you the light to see what’s happening, and using a sword, you can cut down ropes and violently swing at those trying to kill you. You’ll have to do so quickly, or you could get killed anyway.

Developer/Publisher: Tricol Co., Ltd.

Release Date: March 19, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality

Price: $7.19 to $7.99

You’ll be competing against another team, and the challenges will get far goofier than you’d expect.

Fitness Potential

In Cop Academy you’ll use the tracked motion controllers to do everything from fire weapons to defend yourself during a riot. Swing a club, quickly dress up officers’ mannequins, and even try to disable a bomb before it’s too late. Bleeding Edge VR Chap. 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADbOOhnVXvU

Jurassic Park deserves a proper thrill-ride-style VR shooter game. While we wait for an official title, Bleeding Edge VR is here to satiate your dinosaur-loving appetite. The on-rails game first chapter is available now, and you must protect yourself from furious creatures using your reflexes and a few powerful firearms. Dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes are included, so you’ll need to be at your very best.

Fitness Potential

Bleeding Edge plays a little bit like a classic arcade cabinet shooter. Rather than a light gun, you’ll use one tracked motion controller to fire. You must quickly point it down in order to reload, and turning it left or right will let you replace your weapon. Swapping weapons is crucial to success, and you can replay the shot experience for a chance at an even higher score.

Developer/Publisher: XAC Inc.

Release Date: March 18, 2019.

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality

Price: $2.54 to $2.99

Final Assault

A real-time strategy game in virtual reality, and one that takes place in World War II? Final Assault might not be the typical VR game, but it still offers innovative use of the technology. With a full campaign as well as “skirmish” modes for player-versus-player and the AI, it offers plenty of variety. You must command your army of artillery, ground vehicles, and planes as you clash with the enemy faction across 12 unique maps. You’re also free to customize your units and flags.

Fitness Potential

Believe it or not, Final Assault actually makes use of the tracked motion controllers! You’ll use them to quickly draw the pathways you want your units to take, and you’ll need to be somewhat frantic in order to make sure everyone is in the right position. When the enemy acts unexpectedly, this is even more important.

Developer/Publisher: Phaser Lock Interactive

Release Date: March 21, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality

Price: $20.09 to $29.99

EggFight

Credit to: NINE VR

You’ve played plenty of other VR shooters where you control a human, but how many have put you in the shell of an egg? In EggFight, your goal is simple: Slaughter 10 eggs before they can split you open and make an omelette of their own. You’ll have plenty of rifles to accomplish this, and it’s best not to question how you hold them.

Fitness Potential

EggFight makes use of the tracked motion controllers on the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality. The eggs you’re battling will bounce up into the air, requiring very fast aiming in order to hit them. There are also grenades that you can use scattered across the battlefield.

Developer/Publisher: NINE VR

Release Date: March 21, 2019

Compatible With: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality

Price: Free during Early Access
