This Week’s VR Game Roundup — A Rhythm Saber Game, Be an Archer, Boxer, and Play Snail FPS!

Beat Saber

Grab your digital sabers, PSVR peeps — Beat Saber is now live! This version of the neon cube slicing game has 5 new songs on top of the previous 11 song soundtrack. Get worked up in Campaign mode with new obstacles and score objectives to power you through your fitness goals. This game is credited for helping people drop weight and become more active. Don’t worry PC VR fans, you’ll be sabering to the new playlist of songs in the very near future! Until then, have fun modding!

Fitness Potential

Slicing red and blue neon cubes to the beat of some electrifying dance tunes is going to rev up your metabolism something fierce. Use your arms to cut cubes as they fly down the platform on Easy, Normal, Hard, and Expert to progress your fitness level over time. Move your body around vertical and horizontal walls to get the legs and core moving.

QuiVr Vanguard

QuiVR’s archery game has a new mini-version of itself called QuiVr Vanguard that you’ll want to introduce your friends to VR with. Play this multiplayer game as a team of archers with ability arrows and other demolition weapons. Strategize as a team and take the high road to gain an advantage on the beefier enemies (also with varying behaviors and attack abilities) down below or flying around.

Fitness Potential

Archery is typically heavy on upper body movement with the bow and arrow aim, pull back, and release. Switching sides will even out the muscle use in each arm and will also hone coordination. Squat, quickly lunge, or step away from air and ground attacks to prevent standing in one place for too long as this is a wall and defense game.

Developer/Publisher: Blueteak/Alvios Inc.

Release Date: November 19, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $11.99 to $14.99

Boxing Apocalypse

Aliens have abducted you and they want you to fight for your life. Get your fists up and start punching at these uggo aliens in an intergalactic boxing ring. Since Boxing Apocalypse’s initial release on the Oculus it’s gotten a visual design upgrade to give aliens more vicious and scaly detail. This game now has heavy-handed punches (power moves), weapons, shields, and finishing moves.

Fitness Potential

Boxing is always a great cardio and fat burning workout when you’re squared up against a moving opponent, man or beast. Try your hand at punching aliens if you’ve already pummeled boxers, orbs, and beats. Stay light on your feet, keep your core active and tight, and put some weight behind those punches for a full body workout.

Developer/Publisher: Gotham City Films LLC

Compatible with: PS VR, with tracked controllers

Price: $19.99

Snailiens

Snailiens have come to Earth to eat our cabbage crops. What do we do about it? Exterminate these overgrown snails with superpowers and goo shooting abilities by shooting them with various weapons. Defend crops and areas from feasting snailiens by building walls to redirect them.

Fitness Potential

This game is a light to mid-range activity game because it involves building defense towers and walls before waves begin. Corralling snailiens will keep you focused on funneling them into oblivion and shooting them is great for coordination building. This game isn’t gory, so if you’re looking for an interesting take on an FPS game this is a good pick.
