Fans of Insomniac Games’ The Unspoken continue to keep the VR action game alive with weekly and monthly opportunities to meet up in the immersive, clandestine world of wizard duels and spellcasting.
A single-player VR esports game, The Unspoken was featured in the first two seasons of the Oculus-sponsored, ESL-run VR League. Since the game was published by Oculus, however, players weren’t sure if they’d have continued support for the game or a player-base to continue enjoying magic duels after an announcement was made in August 2019 that Sony had agreed to acquire Insomniac Games.
The community made a commitment to do what they could to ensure continued access to the game and some of the world’s top competitors continue to encourage new players who are just now discovering the wizarding magic of The Unspoken. They continue to play regularly and maintain an active presence in the game and support groups.
Narrow Win
Narrow Win is a player-versus-player duel event that takes place every Saturday and lasts around two hours. The goal is to have as many players as possible so duels are challenging and the closely-matched players win by the narrowest margin.
It’s always preferable that players duel with others of the same skill level and the match system generally matches beginners with other beginner or intermediate players. More advanced players are matched together, but when matched with less-skilled duelists, the general mindset is one of passing along tips to the less-skilled duelist so beginners are encouraged to participate in these events.

Longest Night
The Longest Night is a monthly opportunity for players of all levels to come together and duel for several hours. The event coincides with Narrow Win weekly duel times so there will be a larger player pool.

In addition to the multi-player mode, there is a single-player campaign that tells the backstory to the secret underground fight club. The campaign mode, Acolytes, was added in late 2017 in response to community feedback and requests for a campaign mode. It also provided less experienced players an opportunity to enjoy features of the game without fretting over being stomped in duels against better players. The single-player campaign is still popular in this fantastic spellcaster game.
