Off the Chains Disc Golf Recreates the Popular Sport on Virtual Reality Devices Next Month

Even though disc golf is probably one of the more socially-acceptable sports that you could play in this strange year that has been 2020, one developer is now looking to replicate the experience in the virtual realm for those who may not be able to get to their local course as often as they’d like.

Coming to VR devices next month, Off the Chains Disc Golf is a new game that looks to mirror the experience you’d be able to find in real life. Developed by Dream Nerdy, Off the Chains is described as a “lighthearted disc golf simulation” that can be played either solo or with some friends via private lobbies or public matchmaking. Perhaps most impressive of all, Dream Nerdy itself was only founded earlier this year, so for the studio to be nearing the release of its first title so quickly is pretty impressive.

While Off the Chains Disc Golf might not be a one-to-one recreation of the actual sport, Dream Nerdy has done its due diligence to ensure that the game is as close as humanly possible to what you’d find in real life. The game includes a physics system that is meant to mirror the trajectories you would find of discs in the real world. Additionally, each disc also has a different rating out of four numbers, which those who disc golf normally should be familiar with.

As for what else is included, Off the Chains Disc Golf boasts four different courses with 63 different baskets in total to aim for. The more you play, the more you’ll also be able to “unlock new discs and new disc bags” in order to keep things customizable as time goes on.

Even though Off the Chains Disc Golf won’t be a substitute for the real thing, there do still seem to be some great fitness applications here for those looking to stay active. While you might not have the same force behind your “throws”, the realistic physics that are included here will ensure that you’re still making similar motions with your arms while playing. Even though you may not be walking over a vast course, those throwing motions will surely keep you moving quite a lot.

And personally speaking for myself, I’m sure that I would be better at disc golf here with Off the Chains that I would be in real life.

As for when you can pick up Off the Chains Disc Golf, the game will become available next month on October 29 and will release via Steam. The title will retail for $19.99 and will be compatible with Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
