New Releases: This Week In VR Fitness Games 1/15/18

Box to the rhythm, punch aliens, play a game of cricket, shoot robots, and fight off hordes of zombies with this week's new VR releases!

BOX VR

This punch-to-the-beat, boxing VR workout is now released on Oculus. Listen to electronic music or play your own workout playlist as you combo punch your way to fitness. This game is rated as “Intense” for the Oculus comfort level and has box combos that have been curated by fitness trainers.

Fitness Potential

Punching orbs as they appear is going to give you a cardio and strength training workout. The upper body, shoulders, chest, and arms are going to the majority of the conditioning here, while the lower body, legs, thighs, and glutes will be stabilizing you as you put force behind punches. Add weighted hand wraps for more fire and difficulty behind the workout. VR boxing games you will also want to try: The Thrill of the Fight and The Fastest Fist.

Boxing Apocalypse

Get your arms warmed up and ready to punch aliens in the face with this new release. Trying to escape the world domination of alien invaders, your task is to double punch, no quadruple punch them in their mean mugs. Waves of these aliens will be attacking in 360-degrees, so keep those fists up!

Fitness Potential

Boxing Apocalypse is a great entry level to advanced boxing game that has flexible difficulty options. If it’s arm, shoulder, chest, and upper back day, use this game to get target those upper body muscle groups. If you want more of a workout, amp up the difficulty settings or play in their multiplayer mode to fight against other real-life players. If you like VR boxing games, play: Knockout League or Sound Boxing.

Cricket Club

You’ll be playing cricket at New Zealand’s Basin Reserve with a team that will throw cricket balls at you, the batsman. It’s up to you to hit the ball as hard as you can when it bounces to you. Practice anticipating different speed and types of bowlers and grab a few buddies for a fun round of cricket.

Fitness Potential

You’ll get arm, shoulder, upper back, and chest conditioning by swinging the cricket bat, but only if you really put some effort behind the swing. No lazy swings! The game says you can use both the right and left sides, which you could use to even out the muscle use. If you want to play games that are similar to this one, check out: Spud Cricket VR or Goalkeep VR. Attach a Vive Tracker to a real cricket bat to make it extra realistic. Just don’t hit and break anything.

Scrap Attack VR

Protect crystals from being taken away by robotic beings. You’ll be shooting at waves of big, small, flying, crawling, and attacking robots in 360-degrees. There are 3 stages to fight in with varying intensities, to take on scrappy robots and fight your place to the top spot on the leaderboards. Use the leaderboard to keep you motivated as you compete against other players scores.

Fitness Potential

Holding your arms up to blast sci-fi guns and weaponry at pesky robots is going to give you an upper body workout, while using your lower body to duck away from attacks is going to give your thighs a bit of a workout as well. If you like shooting or fighting games try out: REGENESIS Arcade DELUXE and Mech League: Boxing.

Zombie City

This is a voxel style zombie combat game that will have you outsmarting and outfighting zombies that are trying to eat you. Roam all over the City of Zombie and pick up helpful weapons like guns, ammo, and grenades to throw at cube zombies.

Fitness Potential

Killing off a group of zombies with a projectile is delightful, but won’t give you the best workout. Using guns for a period of time will give you an upper body workout, but using melee attack weapons is going to force you to be faster and stronger for more hit points. Playing in Survival mode is going to give you a great workout because it’s you vs. the zombies in wave after wave of fighting. If you like to get your sweat on by playing zombie and fighting games try out: KungFu Town VR and Zombie Training Simulator.
