New Releases: This Week In VR Fitness Games 1/1/18

Flap your arms like a bird, flap your arms like a flying kitty, or fight off some zombies with this week's new VR releases!

Flappy Arms

Video Credit to: Drop Rate via YouTube

This is an interesting VR flying sim where you’ll be flapping your arms to fly over buildings and through the sky. In a style that looks a lot like virtual Angry Birds, the arm flapping bird will have to use their arms to fly and maneuver around obstacles set up for them throughout an endlessly generated cityscape.

Fitness Potential

This is an upper body dominant game that will target the shoulders, arms, chest, and upper back. The endless mode is an effective challenge for players and their friends, use weighted gloves to make the game harder. Players can see flappers in the third person to cheer or boo their challengers and teammates. There’s a “comfort cage” or an anchoring visual marker to reduce motion sickness so players can play longer rounds without worrying about getting nauseous.

Developer: Improbable Industries

Kitty Hawk

This is also a VR flying sim where you’ll be pumping your arms like a flying bird, except you’re actually a cat…with wings! Kitty Hawk is set in a futuristic and neon world that reminded me of those old Lisa Frank binders from the 90s. The player has to pump their arms and fly through challenging obstacles and grab gems to rack up a high score. A great family friendly game!

Fitness Potential

This is also a dominant upper body game that will work the arms, shoulders, chest, and upper back with all the arm flapping. The endless mode is great to see how far you or your friends can go. This game has fun challenges like fireball throwing monkeys, space bats, and speed boosts. It even has players collect as many gems as they can, to keep motivated before throwing in the towel from noodle arms. If you want to make this game workout more intense add hand weights.

Dead Target VR: Zombie Intensified

This is a first-person zombie shooter where you’ll be shooting and slaying waves of large and small zombies with an agent called M. Zombies on the ceiling, floor, jumpy ones, fast ones, they’re there to kill you, so shoot them before they eat you.

Fitness Potential

Kill zombies to earn cash to upgrade your weapons! Use automatic guns to shoot these zeds coming from different directions. This will give you a light upper body from holding up your arms and shooting and a light lower body workout if you squat during shootouts. This is a good game to supplement with other games like Disc League (available for Samsung Gear VR/Daydream) for more full body activity.

Developer/Publisher: VNG CORP

Release Date: January 2, 2018

Compatible with: Samsung Gear VR, Daydream, Android, with tracked controllers

Price: $3.99 to Free to $6.99
