New Releases: This Week In VR Fitness Games 7/9/18

Seeking Dawn

This is a story-driven action and adventure VR game that’s single and multiplayer with a co-op campaign. Fight for survival in space as James Weston and shoot dangerous and clawed alien beasts and win boss fights with futuristic weapons and equipment. Craft weapons and equipment to help you take down beasts and bosses more aggressively.

Fitness Potential

Seeking Dawn is a seated and standing only game that doesn’t list that it’s room scale. No room scale means that this game won’t be played with leg jarring escapes, which makes it an upper body game. You’ll want to fit a HIIT or LISS workout in after you play this game to work out the lower body and full body more.

Developer/Publisher: Multiverse

Release Date: July 12, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, with tracked controllers

Price: $39.99

Synth Riders

Video Credit to: vrgamecritic

This is an early access game. It’s also a VR rhythm game that’s set in a technologically advanced world where you can race in a simulation to music. The only thing you need to do is hit the right spheres with the correct hand or both. Multiply your score and get speedy boost powerups the better you do and get your groove on.

Fitness Potential

This isn’t listed as a room scale VR game online and that makes us think that this is a dominant upper body game. Punching the right spheres that appear with their corresponding hand is great for coordination and can be dialed up or down in difficulty with easy to expert gameplay. Playing games that workout your legs before or after this game can help you reach your leg day goals.

Developer/Publisher: Retrowave VR/Kluge Interactive

Release Date: July 12, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, with tracked controllers

Price: $9.99

Adventure Game

Credit to: IVGEMENT

Lighthearted and voxel designed Adventure Game is a puzzle game that also has moments of action. Use your wit to think your way through tricky puzzles that will lead you to mysteries, loot, and battles. Swing around swords, shoot arrows and use other weaponry to defeat skeletons, goblins, and whatever oozes are.

Fitness Potential

This game is played in room scale so any movement and action you perform will be within the space you have at home. This helps torch extra calories while you step and make moves during combat with monsters. Adventure Game is simplistic in design but can give you a mental workout with puzzles and is an upper and lower body workout because of the fight scenes and climbing motions that can be done. Please note we do not know the ratio of puzzles to combat, which could change the intensity.

Developer/Publisher: IVGEMENT

Release Date: July 12, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, with tracked controllers

Price: $14.99

Fancy Skiing 2: Online

Video Credit to: vrgamecritic

It’s hot out — crank up the AC and pretend you’re skiing on fresh powder in nature. Fancy Skiing 2: Online is a single and multiplayer VR game and skiing sim where players can ski down tricky courses and winding passageways. Launch off of sweet jumps and swivel around trees, rocks, and other obstacles. Compete against other skiers for gold.

Fitness Potential

This game is seated and standing only without room scale. Play this skiing sim in endless, jumping, and multiplayer modes to get a core and lower body workout when you go through courses in a deep squat. Without the squat, it’s only an upper body and coordination game. Try skiing in their endless mode for a lengthier workout.

Developer/Publisher: 哈视奇科技

Release Date: July 13, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, with tracked controllers

Price: $11.99

Crooked Waters

This game is in early access. Set sail on the open sea and battle with other pirates in this 4v4 and ship versus ship multiplayer and co-op VR game. If you like Sea of Thieves check this action and adventure pirate game out. Steer the ship into a battle as your crew fires cannons and sink the other team.

Fitness Potential

Selecting the arm swing option instead of using the touchpad or joystick to move around the boat makes this game an upper body one. Climbing quickly into the crow’s nest and other areas during navigation or battle adds more to activity. If you want to get lower body potential out of this game players will want to play other games that target your legs.

Developer/Publisher: Craft Game Studio

Release Date: July 13, 2018

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, with tracked controllers

Price: $15.99 to $19.99

Dream Match Tennis VR

Serve the ball and hear the crowd cheer you on when you play Dream Match Tennis VR. This is a sports sim that will match you against an opponent as you hit the tennis ball back and forth. Put some heat behind your serve and move side to side to get to the ball quickly before the reactive AI challenger scores.

Fitness Potential

Tennis is a good upper body, core, and leg workout that is good for fitness. Played in VR, the game is an upper and core game when you put fire (power, effort) behind serves and hits back and forth. Use your racket to aim and deliver top spins and slices for a more complicated shot.

Developer/Publisher: Bimboosoft

Release Date: July 10, 2018

Compatible with: PlayStation VR (PSVR), with tracked controllers
