New Releases: This Week in VR Fitness Games 11/13/17

Fight some Zeds, play virtual dodgeball, destroy ancient demons, or become a gladiator with this week's new VR releases!

Sparc

Two enter and only one leaves victorious. This is Sparc’s full release! It’s a competitive and fast-paced two-person game that resembles dodgeball in virtual form. Both players will serve their own ball, block, and hit the ball back to the opposing player. Don’t let their ball get past you or they win.

Fitness Potential

You’ll be using your entire body to engage and compete against your challenger. The throwing and swinging motions use your arms, chest, and shoulders, while the abdominals and obliques will get a good workout as well. Your lower body will be stabilizing you but don’t get too comfortable, you’ll need to be quick on your feet. There are varying levels of intensity, ranging from easy to pro. You’ll be free to compete or play solo and build up your skill level. Amp up the cardio by pushing yourself to do a harder skill level.

Developer/Publisher: CCP

Release Date: November 16, 2017

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, with tracked controllers

Price: $19.99 to $29.99

Killing Floor: Incursion

Killing Floor was once a PC game and is now on VR. Killing Floor, in any of its iterations is an intense game that will have you fighting for your life to kill some Zeds across varying maps. You’ll be using various automatic and melee weapons to fight off waves of Horzine lab-created murder machines. Each Zed will have different combat abilities, so get ready for anything, even fire.

Fitness Potential

Playing Killing Floor: Incursion in Co-Op will be a good idea if you want to fight without being overwhelmed by the gore or you just want someone to watch your back. If you’re brave play it alone and test your stamina by playing in Endless mode — we guarantee you’ll be sweating in no time. Shooting, slicing, and punching your way through a pack of Zeds and across 6 stages and hours of gameplay will take a lot out of you, working your whole body. Playing sniper, however, won’t get you results because you’ll be posted up somewhere waiting for the dead to arrive.

The Arena of Gladiators

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y7NIhtCq2U

Video Credit to: GameMania via YouTube

You’re a gladiator in a crowded ancient Roman Arena that’s looking to you to quench their bloodlust. You’ll be training to be a gladiator by practicing your bow and arrow skills and by fighting against another gladiator. This game is a historically accurate depiction of what it was like in Rome during this time. It’s story driven and you’ll be able to switch perspectives from a gladiator to a spectator.

Fitness Potential

You’ll be using upper body coordination to shoot distant targets with the bow and arrow but it is unknown how fast the gameplay gets. Also, the gladiator fighting and training isn’t fully explained, so the true potential is locked away until someone reviews it or makes a YouTube video about it. This game focuses a lot on the historical accuracy of the architecture but needs more description about how they train you to become a gladiator. For it being free it’s worth a try.

Developer/Publisher: Lithodomos VR

Release Date: November 13, 2017

Compatible with: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, with tracked controllers

The World of Legend VR: Episode 1

Video Credit to: HTCViveGameReviews Dot Com

You’ll be fighting ancient demons trying to prevent “the Guardians” from destroying the world. Equipped with a sword, shield and range weapon to fight against enemies, you’ll be fighting on one map. This map has various enemies and an end boss who you’ll battle against. Be careful to keep an eye on your mana bar, it’ll get drained pretty fast in combat.

Fitness Potential

This is a one episode game that will hopefully release more stages for better replay value. Currently, World of Legend stands as a quick play game that will give you a light workout if you just go through the motions. Make sure to really put effort behind your attack to elevate your heart rate and get a mild upper body workout as you fight ancient ghouls, demon bats, and a spider devil boss as you block, slash and use magic range weaponry to defeat them. Don’t just stand there, use your legs to squat and dodge oncoming attacks for a challenging lower body workout.

Developer/Publisher: Shanda Games

Release Date: November 13, 2017

Compatible with: HTC Vive, with tracked controllers

Price: $0.99
