Before putting on a headset it’s hard to imagine exactly what playing a game will look like and even sound like. Studios, developers, marketing, and fit gamers at home can make it easier for their followers and fans to find and learn more about a new game, game updates, how-to videos, or entertaining gameplay by streaming or recording with mixed reality programs to showcase them.
The following 5 VR and mixed reality platforms are early access, released, or are awaiting release. Each of them can be used with a green screen.
LIV Client
LIV Client is a mixed reality (MR) capture software that’s currently in early access on Steam, but is free to download for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality headsets! The MR software has over 30 plus supported VR games like Soundboxing, Holopoint, and Beat Saber for casters, developers, and studios to share their unique videos with VR fans online. LIV Client says that all you need are a green screen, lighting, camera, and a computer with compatible CPU and GPU specs. LIV notes that this early version of their MR software does not currently have voice controls, 3rd person camera, or avatar display but will be getting add-ons as they develop the program.
MixCast Studio
MixCast Studio’s MixCast Capture and SDK is a mixed reality program that will capture and then help you stream and cast your own MR video content with or without a green screen. MixCast Studio and Capture currently has a free edition and has a purchase cost of $9.99 for a months subscription or $19.99 for a 3-month subscription on Steam for the Vive and Oculus headsets. Make sure to check their website for comprehensive pricing lists. MixCast supports active titles like Holodance, Fruit Ninja VR, and Sairento, among dozens of other compatible VR games.The MR program can be used with 4K and 8K cameras, but can also use lower quality computer cameras for streaming or video hosting to sites like Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer.
XSplit
Casters, gamers, and studio developers can use XSplit programs to record or live stream/broadcast as they showcase a new VR game or entertain viewers at home. The mixed reality program can be used with PC games, VR games, a green screen, webcam, and the XSplit Gamecaster. Live stream your gameplay on Twitch, Facebook, and Google Plus, as you record ahead of time and then share content on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus. Purchasing a $14.95 (on up) XSplit license gives you access to XSplit Gamecaster and XSplit Broadcaster for 3 months.
Owlchemy MR
You’ll want to keep an eye out on Owlchemy MR from Owlchemy Labs, the recently Google-acquired studio that brought us Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, Job Simulator, and Vacation Simulator. The ambitious studio has their own mixed reality software that is currently still in development. The program is said to use a stereo depth camera, a green screen, and lighting to capture 3rd person video for VR. Update 2 says that lower quality setups that don’t have professional grade screens or lighting can still use their capture system. Not much is known about whether a specific PC-VR rig will be compatible with it, but Update 3 on their blog does show a Vive Tracker and VR camera working together.
VREAL

Record and live stream VR content online for your 2D, 360, 3D and VR fans with VREAL in mixed reality. We recently covered how VREAL’s platform allows their viewers and fans to become an avatar that’s part of a virtual audience spectating in a virtual box seat. VREAL’s simulcasting also allows for different hosts to be live streamed altogether or broadcasted after each segment is filmed separately. VREAL is still in its development phase but is accepting sign-ups for their Alpha testing for Oculus and Vive headsets. Early adopters of the platform have played games like Gorn and Surgeon Simulator and live streamed their ER\VR show Twitch and posted on YouTube.
