If you have ever thought you would survive in a Zombie Apocalypse, now is your chance to prove it. If you have ever found that something chasing you would encourage you to run faster then nothing will make you run faster than zombies coming after you. Let’s get the best cardio workout in and have some fun running from and slaying zombies in Zombies, Run!
What is Zombies, Run?
“Zombies, Run!” is an audio only augmented reality with a native application to accompany other aspects of the game. You are given a base that is randomly selected from your current location and that base is where you will spend the majority of the time you are not playing the application. However, just like the rest of the game’s, you must run to the base in order to obtain the base. Once you have obtained a base, you are now given the opportunity to collect resources and build your base, by running evermore. You can pause the game when you need to, such as in traffic or crossing dangerous areas. When zombies run after you, you just increase your speed by 10% in order to escape them.
Graphics and Visuals Score 2/5
If you have ever played Farmville or Clash of Clans, this game’s graphics are similar to that. When you run, it becomes an audio experience. The games graphics are not that impressive, but the game is entirely focused on fitness through running.
Hardware Requirements Score 5/5
Any smartphone that has come out within the past five years should technically be good enough to play this game, provided that those smartphones were the medium or top smartphones of their time. Smartphones that are built cheap and don’t have a lot of power in them might not be able to play this game, but I have yet to find one that hasn’t been able to handle this game since the graphics are so low grade. It is available for both iPhone and Android.
Fitness Score 4/5
Easily manageable, but also easily exhaustible. The game has several missions that are released weekly and you must pay in order to get them, but each mission can be replayed to gain more supplies. The missions are important for the aspect of the main storyline. Each mission is about a twenty to forty minute run and you will find that these are easily manageable. Your first mission, the mission to obtain a base, is your speed measurement and that is how the game records how fast you should run on a regular basis. In addition to this, the more supplies you collect while not dropping them off at the base the more likely you will be targeted by zombies.
Gameplay Score 4/5
In addition to the 200 missions that come with the game, Zombies, Run! provides you with a lot of replayability as you will constantly be increasing your base so that it suffers less and less when zombies attack it. You are encouraged to get supplies regularly and the option to get new missions each month is fantastic. In addition to this, you are given the option to make your own missions if you have run out of missions. The only downsides to this video game are that it’s an audio-only experience for the most part and it’s not an obese-friendly game. The reason why there is a Zombies, Run! 5k that’s also on the market is to get your body prepare to play this game because the game developers decided to not back down on the intensity of the game.
Overall Score 3.75
For a game that’s initially free, this is a great game to get into shape and keep in shape. The In-App purchases are primarily for subscription-based models to keep the game running, which is understandable as the game creator needs to hire voice actors and special audio effect creators to create the necessary audio in the game. If you’re looking for a low-budget game to start exercising, Zombies, Run! is a perfect fit for most people.
