New Releases: This Week In VR Fitness Games 2/19/18

Conquer

This first-person combat game is set in the Yan Valley where players will battle demons and uggo-looking beasts with 3 bladed weapons before the world gets taken over. It’s your job to slay these crawling, spear throwing, flying attack demons, among other types before they maim you to death.

Fitness Potential

Equipped with one controller for the sword swinging, the upper body will get more action here with big swings. This is a room scale game, so you can walk around and duck to avoid attacks from creepy teleporting demons. You can slow down time in this game, which makes for more accurate hits and a quick way to tire your leg muscles if you’re ducking.

Do you like melee combat and first-person combat VR games? Try out: Sairento, GORN, and Sword Master.

Developer/Publisher: Wan Studio

Release Date: February 21, 2018

Fitness Potential

You’ll be shooting insect and crab monsters as you go through industrial buildings at the refinery that’s been taken over. DMD Mars Mission will have you utilizing your upper body strength to shoot for an extended time, set off explosions from refinery chemicals, and use your lower body to duck or dive away. Add weighted gloves or a vest to add some drag and intensity if you need it.

Do you like to get your sweat on with first-person shooters? Play: Superhot VR, Real Shot, and Hailstorm.

Run Dorothy Run

This is an on the rails swingin’ rhythm game that’s set in the backdrop and storyline of the Wizard of Oz. Use the controllers to hit and collect crystals as the music plays and gain special crystals (power-ups) that increase point value. This game has a flying monkey, the sarcastic floating head of the Wizard of Oz, and Toto running by Dorothy (you) the whole time.

Fitness Potential

Lightly tapping the crystals isn’t going to do much, but if you really go for it and hit them as fast and as accurate as you can you’ll feel it in the arms. Players online have said that Run Dorothy Run can be an effective upper body workout when set to medium and hard; add gloves or a weighted vest to feel the burn.

If you like rhythm VR games try out: Soundboxing, BOX VR, and Audioshield.

Goaltender VR

Catch or block launching tennis balls, soccer balls, hockey pucks, and other types of balls with gloves, velcro paddles, and mitts. This is a VR goalie sim that will have players practicing blocking skills and hand-eye coordination.

Fitness Potential

Blocking balls in an indoor gym, court, and hockey rink is great mental and physical practice for sports that depend on a goalie. Give yourself a challenge by matching the red and blue balls to their corresponding paddles, block balls coming in high or low, and block pucks being hit by hockey players. This is a goalie sim that will keep the upper and lower body active with every block.
