The president of HTC’s global sales, Chia-lin Chang, has stated the company’s executives have a “good plan” when it comes to the successful application of virtual reality to mobile technology. She commented that Vive is “top end” and the company is moving in the mobile VR direction with its new device. She is adamant that this new creation is not a mere placement of the smartphone into a headset. She says it is, “…a different thing.” Unfortunately, Chang refused to specify exactly how this mobile virtual reality technology will work. However, she was willing to say that the mysterious product will be released before the end of 2017.

HTC executives have clearly shifted the company’s focus away from phones to virtual reality. The company launched the Vive in 2016, going head-to-head against the Oculus Rift as well as the Sony PlayStation VR system.
