Synth Riders Gets Free Power-Ups Update Today, Muse DLC Coming Next Month

One of VR Fitness Insider’s favorite dancing games is Synth Riders and now Kluge Interactive’s rhythm game is getting a free update on Steam, Oculus Quest (cross-buy with Rift), and Viveport that makes it even better than before! Plus, even more music is on the way including songs by the British rock band Muse.

The free patch is called the “Power-Ups update,” and takes inspiration from kart racing games. The multiplayer mode now features kart racing-style boosts and attacks that players can pick up and use during battles. There are currently seven attacks and two boosts that can be used. The power-ups include Embiggen, which makes the notes much larger and into beach balls, Warp, which makes the notes come at players at a huge speed increase, and there’s even an Invaders power-up that sends projectiles at the player. These attacks can stack on each other, so expect some wild combinations and a new challenge.

“Power-Ups made our whole team smile and laugh during testing,” said Creative Director Abraham Aguero Benzecri. “We are excited to finally share them with our entire community! We hope our players will have lots of laughs and unforgettable moments playing Synth Riders multiplayer with their friends and family.”

Meanwhile, more music is coming early next year. On Jan. 14, the “Synthwave Essentials 2” pack will come out. This pack features yet to be named songs from Muse on it. It’s the third overall DLC music pack for the rhythm game.

Synth Riders has been given a fitness rating comparable to an elliptical by the VR Institute of Health and Exercise and has a 6.8 calories per minute Yur.fit rating that is comparable to rowing. The rhythm title is available now on Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and Windows Mixed Reality for $24.99 on Steam.
