The Final Overs is the First VR Cricket Game for Oculus Quest and It’s Available Now

Are you tired of playing all of our dumb old sports that were born here in the United States? I mean, baseball? Lame. Football? Old and boring. Basketball? Who needs it! Luckily, your desire to play sports from foreign lands can now be satiated in a whole new way if you have an Oculus Quest headset.

Released today by developer Mixeal, The Final Overs is a new cricket game that can be played in VR right now. Available solely for the Quest platform, The Final Overs is here to give you an accurate cricket experience without the needing to find a field or teammates to play with. In fact, Mixeal says that this is the first cricket game that has ever come to Oculus Quest.

As for how The Final Overs plays, it’s said to be quite accurate when compared to the real game, although Mixeal does warn that there is a bit of a learning curve. “With incredibly simplistic gameplay, The Final Overs doesn’t require any professional hands to hurl the ball way into the crowd with a powerful swing of the bat,” says a description for the game on its official store page. “Even if you’re new & know little to nothing about cricket, this game offers you the basic experience to effortlessly familiarize yourself with it and enjoy it without needing to learn about the sport.”

You can get a look at The Final Overs in action via the trailer below:

Mixeal says that The Final Overs has also come about at just the right time with the whole world having changed due to the ongoing pandemic. Fortunately, if you’ve been chasing that thrill of hearing the crowd cheer around you once again, The Final Overs should scratch that itch. “While everyone is asked to stay inside homes & cricket grounds have gone cheerless & crowd-less, revive the vigor of cricket by not being a mere spectator but by actually being in the shoes of a batsman and chasing a mighty target in just a few overs,” Mixeal says of the project.

As for the game’s prospects as a fitness title, well, it’s easy to see how this one could help you stay in shape. The main way in which you’ll be moving about while playing The Final Overs will come in the form of you swinging your cricket bat. If you’re playing the game solely to get in a nice sweat, putting your full body into your swing is likely the best route to go down. And if you need some tips on just what it looks like to swing with your whole body, check out the aforementioned trailer above to see what I mean.

If you’re looking to pick up The Final Overs for yourself, you can currently only download it for Oculus Quest via side loading. As such, you’ll have to head over to Side Quest to add it to your own headset. It’s also worth noting that the game is currently in Early Access, which means that it will only continue to grow over time.
