This Week’s VR Game Roundup: Off the Chains Disc Golf, New VR Rhythm Titles

During our last VR Game Roundup, there were several interesting games highlighted including a new basketball title called Hoops Madness, House Flipper arrived on additional platforms, and Grapple Tournament. However, this week’s VR Game Roundup is pretty barren with the release week of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X not being a great time to launch a title. While there aren’t many notable releases, we do have several new rhythm games releasing, Rags to Dishes, and Off the Chains Disc Golf.

Off the Chains Disc Golf

Kicking off this week’s VR Game Roundup is Off the Chains Disc Golf, which is a recreation of the popular sport. It’s fully featured as it has 63 baskets and four courses to master, has additional discs to unlock, and online multiplayer. Disc golf fans should find plenty of replayability here.

Fitness Potential

While Disc Golf can be a solid workout in real life as you’re walking from hole to hole and are out in the sun, it loses a solid amount of physical exertion in a virtual realm. You’ll still be moving one of your arms plenty, but this won’t match the top VR arm workouts. Early reviews also indicate a few issues with the disc physics, so it might be best holding off until this is addressed in a patch in the near future.

Rhythm ‘n Bullets

The most unique title releasing this week is DB Creation’s Rhythm ‘n Bullets, which combines a traditional shoot ’em up with rhythm elements. It differs from most shooters as players will use both of their hands to control two different fighter jets. There’s a campaign to get through, plus a leaderboard-based endless mode.

Fitness Potential

This looks to be a light arm workout as you will be constantly moving your arms around in order to dodge bullets. You’ll also have to look around as enemies come from all angles, so this could wind up being more taxing than expected.

Release Date: November 9, 2020

Compatible With: Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality

Price: $9.99

Rags to Dishes

Cooking titles are a lot of fun and Rag to Dishes looks to be the latest enjoyable one to release in virtual reality. It’s a solo title, so don’t expect to play with friends, but has a six-hour campaign and you will be able to upgrade your kitchen as you go from serving peasants to royalty. Get ready for a lot of fast-paced cooking action.

Fitness Potential

Cooking titles can be surprisingly active as you are using both of your hands to go through cooking actions, such as slicing vegetables and stirring soups. There’s always something you should be doing thanks to the quick nature of the gameplay, so this can be a fun arm workout.

Crazy Music Tennis

Finishing this week’s VR Game Roundup is Crazy Music Tennis, which is also the best fitness title of the week. It was developed by Beijing Magic AI Technology with fitness in mind and gives players a rhythm-based tennis exercise to do. It combines OhShape-style movement matching with tennis skill shots and rhythm-based deflections.

Fitness Potential

Crazy Music Tennis will provide a full-body workout for players and combines many fitness mainstays into one title. If you’re looking for a new game to complement some of the better known VR fitness titles, this looks like a great one to add to your collection. There’s also a leaderboard and multiple difficulty levels to challenge the player to improve over time.

That will finish up this week’s VR Game Roundup. Let us know in the comments if you are picking up any of the new games and if you picked up either a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.
