This Week’s VR Game Roundup – Ping Pong, Smash & Enter the Stormland

VR Ping Pong Pro

Fan of ping pong? What about alliteration? In VR Ping Pong Pro, you have the chance to play in one of the most realistic ping pong simulators ever made. The game features authentic ball physics, several different modes and customization options, and numerous environments. It also includes online multiplayer so you can show off your skills to the world.

Fitness Potential

As an authentic ping pong simulator, VR Ping Pong Pro makes uses of tracked motion controllers. You’ll swing your controllers just like you would a normal ping pong paddle. Anyone who had played ping pong knows that this can get tiring if you’re facing a skilled opponent. Depending on the players you meet online, they might just push you into a difficult workout. There are also mini-games to choose from that you can further train yourself with.

ReMind VR: Daily Meditation

Available now on Steam after previously releasing on Viveport, ReMind VR: Daily Meditation will help you relax through three different exercises. At only $4.99, it’s easy to add it to your daily routine. Developer Free Range Games used meditation techniques from relaxation therapy experts, and it’s designed to be played on a daily basis – as the name suggests.

Fitness Potential

ReMind VR: Daily Meditation is obviously not designed to replace other VR fitness games. Instead, it’s designed to put your mind in a state of wellness similar to how other games do for your body. The three exercises each help with a different type of relaxation and positive thinking, which can make it a great choice for the end of a long day or right after you wake up in the morning.

Developer/Publisher: Free Range Games/Vive Studios

Release Date: November 10, 2019

Stormland

One of the most-anticiapted VR games of the year, Insomniac Games’ Stormland is an ambitious science-fiction adventure that will continue to evolve over time. The game allows you to wield powerful and creative weapons to beat the robots invading the titular world. You can bring a friend along to explore in two-player cooperative mode, and come back each week to explore new areas.

Fitness Potential

Much of Stormland’s fitness potential comes from its unique climbing system. Designed to allow you to take full advantage of the open world, the system essentially lets you climb any surface you see. You climb much like you would in real life, moving each arm and pulling. If you plan on exploring sufficiently, that means you’ll be getting a solid workout without even fighting any enemies.

Super Smash the Ball VR

Super Smash in VR? Well, yes, but not the game you’re thinking of. In Super Smash the Ball VR, your goal is simple: Smash every ball you see. Using a spear, you must smash every ball you encounter while completing an obstacle course. You’ll get power-ups along the way, and there are multiple difficulties and 20 stages to complete. Nearly anyone can pick it up and start playing.

Fitness Potential

You will be using tracked motion controllers to swing at the balls you see in the obstacles courses. When you come across ladders, you must climb them as if they were real, putting your arms above your head. Projectiles will be launched at you, as well, and you will need to dodge them and smack them away with shields to avoid taking damage.

Contagion VR: Outbreak (PlayStation VR)

The sequel to the original horror shooter Contagion is now available on PlayStation VR for the first time. In Contagion VR: Outbreak, you battle through a single-player campaign, free toaming and battling dangerous enemies while also solving puzzles. Do you have what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse?

Fitness Potential

Like in most VR shooters, you’ll be using your tracked motion controllers to quickly aim and shoot enemies in Contagion VR: Outbreak. You can also use melee weapons like a chainsaw, which you’ll need to start by manually pulling the cord. Regardless of your weapon, you’ll have to be reactive and agile in order to make it out alive.
