VR Master League to Host Cross-Platform Space Junkies Tournament

VR Master League announced this week that Ubisoft’s Space Junkies is coming to the community-driven platform with competition beginning on Monday, October 7.

Following a blog post at the end of August that Ubisoft was discontinuing development of the game, dedicated fans began making their own plans to keep it alive. Led largely by efforts of PeskyCashew, the community was able to find a place for Space Junkies on the VR Master League platform.

In the fast-paced VR first-person shooter, players fly through low gravity Orbital Arenas and battle for resources with a variety of weapons, gadgets, etc.

VR Master League was established in early 2017 by DaKinMan as a hub where players can be involved in organization and decisions pertaining to the league. The player-supported platform has grown exponentially over the past two years and currently manages competitive scenes for some of the most popular VR games available, including:

Format

Space Junkies will follow the usual VRML format that consists of weekly play against opponents of similar skill levels within a particular region. The tournament is open to players of all skill levels and everyone is encouraged to play, even if they have no previous experience with competitive VR. At the end of the season, there will be a cross-region tournament to determine the overall champions.

The league format will be 3v3 Team Deathmatch, but two-player teams can participate as well. According to PeskyCashew, teams can voluntarily play with two players if they’re against a two-player team, but they’re not required to if they have three team members available.

When Space Junkies was released in March, it became available on all major platforms, including the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Playstation VR. The VRML Space Junkies tournament series will be the first time the VRML has offered a cross-platform competition with PC VR and PSVR. This is an exciting opportunity for players to see who will claim individual victories and also which HMDs will be most well-represented in the hostile arenas of Space Junkies.

You can find tournament rules here.

How to Participate

Players and teams can join at any point during the season.

Prizes

Prizes are still being determined, but there will be in-game coins, official Space Junkies apparel, and a small cash prize to the winning team(s).

If you have questions about the tournament, message PeskyCashew#0784 or one of the other league moderators via the SJ VRML Discord.
