This Week’s VR Game Roundup — Until I Expect You to Fall

Acron: Attack of the Squirrels!

VR games can be social experiences at home, but that often involves shuffling the headset around your living room. Acron: Attack of the Squirrels takes a different approach, pitting one  VR user against others on mobile phones. As the protector of the Golden Acorns, it’s up to you to defend yourself from the menacing rodents encroaching on your territory.

Fitness Potential

As the tree protecting your acorns, you must hurl projectiles at the squirrels running toward you. Because they’re blazing-fast, this will have to be done at a very brisk pace. You’ll see targets off in the distance that you must hit, as well as closer enemies. With the right pace, you can keep your acorns all for yourself.

Developer/Publisher: Resolution Games

Release Date: August 29, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality

Price: $19.99

Hotel R’n’R

Give me something to break! In Hotel R’n’R, you are not only allowed to smash everything in sight, but required to. As part of a deal with the Devil, you are sent to several hotel rooms to cause total mayhem. You’ll have to do this without the staff finding out, and try not to die in the process, as well.

Fitness Potential

You use the tracked motion controllers in Hotel R’n’R to destroy the objects you come across. This can be as simple as smashing a bottle you find, or even grabbing a chair and hurling it at the television. Provided you’re using the same energy you would to smash real objects, you’ll be working up a sweat in almost no time at all.

Developer/Publisher: Wolf & Wood

Release Date: August 29, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index

Price: $19.99

Until You Fall

Sword-fighting is one of the most exciting things to do in VR, and few companies know the medium better than Schell Games. The I Expect You to Die studio has created a fantasy-style sword game with intense combat and several customization options. This is the melee game you’ve been waiting for.

Fitness Potential

Until You Fall offers great fitness potential, because you’ll be swinging your arms as if you are holding weapons. When an enemy goes in for an attack, you hold your arms in front to block, and then deliver a devastating follow-up blow. You also need to move to your side in order to completely avoid certain enemies’ attacks.

Developer/Publisher: Schell Games

Release Date: August 27, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive

Price: $15.99 to $19.99

DownStream: VR  Whitewater Kayaking

If you go whitewater kayaking for the first time and don’t know what you’re doing, you could end up dead. Take danger out of the equation with DownStream: VR Whitewater Kayaking. Either on your own or against others, race toward the finish and use power-ups to keep yourself afloat and out of harm’s way. You’ll even get extra experience for doing sick stunts during your run.

Fitness Potential

You hold an oar in each hand via the tracked motion controllers, and these are used to control the kayak. Depending on the intensity, you must be very active with your movements in order to keep yourself on the right path. Without this skill, you could end up slamming into a deadly rock, and that isn’t any fun. Your friends’ own speed can give you the motivation you need to succeed, as well.

Developer/Publisher: JumpStick

Release Date: August 28, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index

Price: $19.99 to $24.99

Inside the Park VR

There have been plenty of baseball games released for VR, but Inside the Park VR just might be the most impressive. The game was designed with real baseball players in mind, and uses realistic physics so the ball will go where it should after being put in play. There are three difficulty levels, and you can take to the field or even pitch, as well.

Fitness Potential

You will essentially be playing a full version of baseball with Inside the Park VR. Swinging is done just as it is in real life. In the outfield, you’ll have to chuck the ball back to your infielders, and catchers must be quick on throw. With a little practice, you’ll start feeling like a big leaguer.

Developer/Publisher: Intelimmerse

Release Date: August 30, 2019

Compatible With: Oculus Rift, HTC Vive,  Windows Mixed Reality, Valve Index

Price: TBD
