Schell Games received acclaim for the VR puzzler I Expect You to Die, and the studio is back with a new virtual reality game from a very different genre. Until You Fall is a sword combat game mixed with a touch of magic, and it could teach you a little something about wielding a blade.
“We’re blending various styles of sword fighting to create an intense, real-time combat experience that hasn’t been seen before with VR,” said Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell. “Using our deep knowledge of these platforms, we believe this game will push boundaries and leave players with the immersive melee fighting experience they’ve been craving.”
This isn’t a fencing simulator
Until You Fall will feature fantasy creatures to battle, including “corrupted humanoids” and other mysterious fiends, and it appears the game could bleed into the horror genre with its enemies. Teaser art released alongside the news seems to confirm this, with a terrifying lanky beast shown. Should we end up fighting this, we’ll likely be scared enough to swing our swords as quickly as possible, which should at least be good for fitness potential.
Until You Fall will still be welcoming to less experienced players, however. Even if you die, you’ll still be making constant progress. A second image also shows a dual-wielding knight, so you should have the arsenal to defend yourself.
Shell Games has a wealth of experience in virtual reality. The studio has also worked on HistoryMaker VR, and assisted on Star Wars: Jedi Challenges. The latter game is particularly important, as it could bode well for Until You Fall’s playability.
Until You Fall doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but it will arrive to VR platforms in 2019. I Expect You to Die is available now on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality.
